Records & Media Objects π
The record framework lies at the core of the Imagen system and is shaped by media and metadata.Β Imagen provides a set of robust tools for ingesting media and storing the media information into 'record metadata'.Β Β
This guide will explain the relationship betweenΒ record metadata and media objects.
Prerequisite knowledge: To make the most of this guide it would help to be familiar with Imagen Web
Metadata is information that is used to describe and find your digital assets. A metadata standard or schema can include labelling, tagging, or coding to set up data elements and rules about their usage. Imagen stores record information in structuredΒ βRecord schemaβ. As metadataΒ is crucial to describing and organising your assets, Imagen gives you the most powerful tools in the business to generate and manage metadata accurately and efficiently.Β

ClassesΒ
Imagen uses a special set of record fields called βclassesβ to consistently present record information on a record page. Imagenβs classes include title, summary, and date and apply to all records (e.g., setting the field βFilm titleβ as the βTitleβ class prominently displays the βFilm titleβ field at the top of every record page). Classes can be changed at any point if needed.Β Β

Media objectsΒ
When a record is created, you have many options for uploading media.Β Before exploringΒ theseΒ options, it is important to understandΒ βmediaΒ objectsβ.Β
A media object is used to hold a piece of media.Β Although this diagram shows only oneΒ media object, aΒ record can hold many media objects.Β Each media object contains only one original fileΒ - we call this a 'media element' -Β but also containsΒ media metadataΒ andΒ renditions.
Every cataloguing or archiving system in the world uses metadata systems of one type or another. Without effectiveΒ mediaΒ metadata, it would be virtually impossible to find specific items. Β Media metadata can be used to set a name for the media, set aΒ Timecode Mode,Β base-timecode,Β Clip Order Cost,Β orΒ File download Cost.Β Β

β οΈIMPORTANT: To edit the media or metadata of a record you will need 'View & Editβ permissions. If you do not have the permissions that you believe you should, please check with your Imagen system administrator.
